Contact usWhere do you deliver to?
The UK only, including Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and the islands. We do not currently ship overseas, so an order with a non-UK address will not go through at checkout.
How quickly will my order arrive?
Orders placed before 2pm Monday to Friday leave our warehouse the same day. After 2pm, at the weekend or on a bank holiday, it goes out the next working day.
Standard delivery is Royal Mail Tracked 48 at £3.99, usually two to three working days, and free on orders of £50 or more. Priority is Royal Mail Tracked 24 at £4.99, usually the next working day. These are Royal Mail's delivery aims rather than guarantees.
Who delivers it?
Royal Mail, tracked. You get the tracking number by email when the parcel is on its way.
Why does my order need a signature?
Bread lames and replacement blades are age restricted. By ordering one you confirm you are 18 or over, and the parcel should be signed for by someone aged 18 or over. 18+ signed-for delivery is available at checkout: £6.99 on Royal Mail Tracked 48, or £7.99 on Tracked 24.
Will my starter survive the post?
Yes, and it is guaranteed: if a starter arrives dead we replace it free. It keeps fermenting on the journey, so it sometimes pushes its way out of the pot and into the sealed bag. That is normal and does nothing to the culture. Scrape it into a clean jar, give it a feed, and it will be active again quickly.
How soon can I bake with it?
Within a day or two. The culture is already mature, so it does not need the week of daily feeds that a starter made from scratch does. Feed it flour and water when it arrives, leave it somewhere warm, and bake once it is bubbling and doubling. Our feeding guide has the details, and a dehydrated starter has its own rehydrating guide.
What do I feed it?
Strong white bread flour and water, in equal weights. We use Marriage's Organic Strong White, which you can find with our other flours for sourdough.
Can I return something?
Yes. Unused and in its original packaging, send it back within 30 days and we will refund it. Email us first and we will tell you where to send it. Sourdough starters are a living product and cannot be returned once opened, but the arrive-alive guarantee covers you if one does not make it.
Something is wrong with my order, what now?
Email us with the order number and what has happened. A person reads it and replies, usually the same working day.
Can I change or cancel an order?
If it has not been picked yet, yes. We dispatch at 2pm on weekdays, so the sooner you email the better. After that it is a return.
